First light

Early morning, first light. The village is small and soon behind me. Just the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore.
The tide is just leaving, letting behind a blank canvas of sand; already a few new stories of animals and men have been painted on it. Pelicans and frigate birds are already in the air, looking out for their breakfast.
The weekly supply ship appears on the horizon and slowly comes in; glinting red in the morning sun. How must it be, living on an island without cinemas and super markets, with sandy main streets and restaurants under the stars?
